Violin and piano teacher Katharina Apostolidis in Blankanese is considered an institution in her own right. Music-loving children from the west part of Hamburg come to learn from her every day. After playing with the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra and part-time with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, she taught students at the Hamburg Conservatory for 23 years, till going free-lance seven years ago. Her range covers classic, rock, pop, folklore and samba. Her most important concern is to give space to and acknowledge both the child's personality and soul. Her students are involved in the regional music scene, giving concerts at churches, residences, readings at the Deutschen Schauspielhaus, weddings at places like the Elblounge, and so on. They are regular winners in competitions such as Jugend Musiziert and LTM – one trio came in fourth in a national competition. Her former student, Annette v. Hehn, moved onto the international stage as a soloist and teacher. Apostolidis has created a number of colouring and puzzle books, like “The Note Clown”, which she wrote and illustrated herself, with clever ways to motivate children to learn music notes. The books have also been published in America, Japan, Norway and Sweden. “Tatiti – The Rhythm Indian” also exists as a computer game. Together with her former husband, guitarist and song-writer Nicos Apostolidis, she has produced 20 CDs where she played violin and wrote lyrics. Her creative, multi-faceted profile is rounded off with articles she has written on music as medicine, contributions and reviews – all evidence of her incredible commitment. source: www.hamburg-guide.de |
